Automotive Technology Course Descriptions

Basic Theory (OCC-301)

  • Hands-on study of the construction, operation and function of all major automotive units
  • Topics include engine fundamentals and tune-ups, emission control, suspension and alignment as well as fuel, electrical, ignition and brake systems
  • 10 sessions

Brake Systems (OCC-324)

  • In-depth knowledge of latest brake theory and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience in servicing and repairing brake systems
  • Shop safety regulations
  • Practice for the ASE certification exam
  • 6 sessions

Engine Performance (OCC-336)

  • In-depth technician theory and hands-on experience in engine performance
  • Topics include engine design and operations, ignition systems, emission controls and OBDII systems
  • Practice for the ASE certification exam
  • 5 sessions

Electrical Systems (OCC-400)

  • In-depth, hands-on study of automotive electrical systems
  • Topics include electrical system diagnosis, battery diagnosis and service, starting and charging systems, lighting, gauges, warning devices, horn, wiper, washer, body and miscellaneous accessories diagnostic and repair
  • 5 sessions

Auto Body Repair and Refinishing (OCC-405)

  • Learn concepts and develop basic skills necessary for auto-body collision repair and refinishing
  • Topics include frame alignment equipment and techniques, glass and trim replacement, and estimating using technical manuals and parts catalogues
  • Preparation for the ASE certification exam
  • 10 sessions

Heating and Air Conditioning (OCC-406)

  • Learn concepts and develop basic skills necessary to diagnose automotive heating ventilation and air-conditioning problems
  • Topics include heating and air-conditioning principles, test equipment, how to interpret and analyze information, system diagnosis and repair. Major emphasis will be on diagnostic procedures.
  • 8 sessions
