Brian K. Smith
Chairman, CEO and President
Mr. Smith currently serves as Chairman, CEO and President of SMITHSolutions, Inc. and has been instrumental in the core development and growth of the corporation since its inception in 1999. As an inspired entrepreneur, Smith quit his full-time job with no prospects in site to start the solutions-based company. As a result, SMITHSolutions was born building its reputation serving government and commercial clients. Mr. Smith combined his substantial background in software engineering since 1990 and SEI CMM Level 5 training with his engineering and business experience to yield customized and intelligent software solutions for the corporation. Under his leadership, SMITHSolutions has become well known for its professionalism and quality solutions in database, software and network engineering.
Mr. Smith has over 16 years of experience in software technologies and holds several honors and awards for his technological advances for the military and federal government. He also retains extensive experience in multiple technological environments including: client/server database development; web development; software and systems engineering; electrical engineering; network operating systems and product development.
Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and retains numerous certifications and certificates in database, application and software development. Prior to becoming CEO of SMITHSolutions, Mr. Smith served as a software engineer at IBM and General Electric Information Services (GEIS). He has worked on a variety of projects involving information systems security, development operations and client development support. He has been recognized for his exceptional work and dedication for improving business processes and customer support. Later in his career, Mr. Smith was employed by Motorola Space Systems and Technology Group (SSTG) and served in technical and leadership roles for the JSTARS Military data collection, P94 Testing and the International Space Station Alpha (ISSA) Projects. He has been credited for his supreme analytical ability to apply the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model (SEI CMM) Levels 1 thru 5 throughout the whole life-cycle of development.
Mr. Smith’s major successes to date have been within two years after graduating from college in solving complex software & system design problems in a military equipment tracking system by creating his own change data capture solution in a database architecture for Boeing and solving a multi-facet testing algorithm using a graphical testing tool called HPVEE for the International Space Station Project for Motorola. Both problems took engineers more than 6 - 9 months to address the problem without a feasible solution. Once aware of the full scope of the issues, Mr. Smith solved both problems in a matter of 3 days each and produced a fully developed and tested program during the same timeframe. Due to his unique ingenuity and cross-industry multi-platformed solutions, Mr. Smith has been recognized as one of the most innovative and talented engineers of his time.
